How schools across the city used the climate stories of We Still Have a Chance to inspire their art.
In November 2022, DAISI artists Simon Ripley, Jess Carvill and James Lake ran a series of workshops, designed with Dr Eliana Maestri and DAISI project lead Megan Dowsett, for some schools in Exeter to translate the climate stories at the heart of We Still Have a Chance into visual artwork.
The children were given the opportunity to discuss the climate stories with their teachers before the start of the workshops and understand the project through the projection of a video that was specifically prepared for them.
The artists each worked with a different form – printmaking, cardboard, objects, and fabric – with the aim to help the children appreciate the stories and the climate emergency. It enabled the children to express their desire to help the planet through the power of the arts.
Some of the works presented messages of hope; others imagined a greener future; and some chose to depict realistic scenes, aspects of the environment in need of help.
