Beginning life at COP26 with One Chance Left and continuing through We Still Have A Chance at COP27, We Are The Possible is now a permanent programme of engagement, events, collaborations, and legacy projects with partners in multiple countries.
At its core is storytelling. Stories is the way we make sense of the world and ourselves. Before each COP cycle, We Are the Possible brings together scientists, health experts, educators, youth leaders, translators, and artists. Over 400 people participate in a series of creative workshops through an established collaborative methodology to co-create new narratives to imagine a liveable future for all.
The workshops provide a safe space for sharing research, practice, reflections, conversations and writing about our changing planet, allowing participants to connect facts and emotions. Through a unique editorial process, themes and ideas emerge which are woven into 12 poems or stories – one for each day of the COP conference. These are published in a bilingual anthology and leveraged at policy and public spaces at COP and beyond.
From this rich body of stories, new artforms emerge. Music, theatre, art, animation are co-developed with partner institutions and shared with policy makers and the public at COP and locally as a permanent legacy for the host city, our city of Exeter, and other places.
Education is another key strand of our programme with the Schools Across the Ocean twinning initiative bringing together hundreds of children aged 9-13 years old and their teachers through science, stories, art, and action for our planet. Our education programme supports UNESCO Greening Education Partnerships global efforts to empower the 79% of teachers eager to teach about climate change but lacking the necessary knowledge, resources, and support.
