From the poem 'Making' - We Are the Possible – Planet Forest: 12 Poems for 12 Days of COP30 -
They question capitalism and consumerism, ‘showing’ the effects of this and what has happened, and what is still happening on our watch. From a metaphorical fallen apple to real-life examples of animals struggling for survival as forests are destroyed, to the wasting and polluting of natural resources, there is a palpable sense of mourning. However, the anthology offers hope through an ‘Appendix of Action’ aligned to each poem to reveal positive climate initiatives happening in sometimes unexpected ways and places.
Launched at COP30, this anthology combines history, culture and the latest climate science data to urgently call on global and local leaders and communities to protect and restore the natural world on which we all depend.
Also being launched at COP30 is a new, innovative Climate Stories card game – part of ‘Schools Across the Ocean’ programme, as an aid to climate literacy. What makes this extra special is that the illustrations on the cards are created by children from former iterations of ‘Schools Across the Ocean’ in previous COP host countries UK, UAE and Azerbaijan. The cards give space for creation and imaginations to thrive, to ask ‘what if’, investigate climate science facts, and possible and probable solutions, and explore what action is needed to move towards a hopeful, more sustainable future. During the COP30 presidency the cards will be used and adapted between schools in Brazil and UK linking science and the arts to share new climate stories, by children for children.
