Bright Light Burning returns to COP one year on from its debut in the United Arab Emirates, courtesy of The Theatre of Others.
Set in the world of 2100, Bright Light Burning follows a family of climate migrants who reveal some of the new ways our descendants have found to cherish and care for one another. Together, they perform a history of their ancestors’ choices through the 76 years that stand between us and them.
This performance has been created specifically by students from Khazar University and The Dunya School in Baku, Azerbaijan, thanks to a collaboration with the British Council and British Embassy. It will take place at Extreme Hangout on 15 November, 6.45pm-8.00pm Baku time, with a panel discussion to follow. The event will be live-streamed on the Extreme Hangout website. A second performance will be in the Art Pavilion on 19 November, 5.00pm Baku time.
During COP28, Bright Light Burning was presented in six venues across Dubai. It was the only performance to be invited into the Blue Zone – in the UK Pavilion – and it also played in Green Zone venues, the Main Amphitheatre, the Children and Youth Pavilion and Extreme Hangout. It was also staged at the Mohamed bin Rashid National Library and the Etihad National Museum in Dubai city.
